Interesting Internet Explorer Mac bug

A client recently brought to my attention that some of their forms weren't rendering properly for users with Internet Explorer 5.2 on Mac OS X. Specifically, SELECT boxes would display an empty drop down box, but allow the user to make a selection. When the mouse button is released, the correct option appears in the closed SELECT box.

After some trial and error, I found that some of the OPTION tags had leading spaces or nbsp entities for "indent" purposes in the dropdowns. While this hasn't caused a problem on nearly any other browser I tried, it appears that it will cause IE on the Mac to display nothing but spaces in the SELECT dropdown. This also (obviously) applies to CFSELECT, as it simply renders a SELECT on the client side.

Probably not something you'll run into every day but I've posted it in case someone else has a similar problem.
