AOL Security

AOL plans to offer a service based on RSA Security using a password generator. In addition to the typical username and password, AOL subscribers who use the service need to enter in a numeric code that is displayed on the screen of a small digital key. The key generates a new password every 60 seconds, and each code can only ever be used once. This is a great defense against the growing number of scams out there that try to trick people into revealing usernames and passwords to online sites, as you need those pieces of information but physical access to the key (to see the current code) to steal someone's account.

More information is available at the AOL Passcode site. This type of security has been available for some time in the corporate world, and hopefully this is the first of many consumer companies who adopt the technology.
