More stuff that just works

Skype is a free, P2P voice over IP service that allows you to make free voice calls over the Internet to other computers that have the Skype software running, or to regular, landline phones for a small per-minute charge.

This really isn't nothing new; lots of other IM and other apps have had voice or video conferencing for some time. But none of them "just worked". You had to either play with firewall settings, adjust audio settings, fiddle with microphones and speakers to avoid echos, etc. Thus far I haven't experienced any of this with Skype - after installation, I created an account and was able to start calling immediately. Sound quality is excellent, no dropouts or echos, and I could hear and be heard very well.

Skype also works on multiple platforms - clients are available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Pocket PC.
