"Small" announcements from Apple

At the Macworld conference in San Francisco, Apple introduced several new products:

  • The Mac mini, a tiny G4 based Mac. Connect up a keyboard, monitor, and mouse, and you have a great second computer or mini home server. It is also the cheapest Mac ever made at $499.

  • The newest member of the iPod family, the iPod shuffle, is a flash memory based MP3 player available in 512mb ($99) or 1gb ($149) capacities.

  • Apple also introduced iLife '05, with updates to iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and Garageband. iWork, a new productivity suite featuring Keynote 2 presentation software and the new Pages word processor was also announced.
