Just about every cell phone provider offers an email-to-SMS gateway where SMS messages can be sent from a PC via email. Obviously, though, each carrier has its own domain name and format for the email address making it difficult to figure out where to send a message based soley on its phone number. Enter Teleflip, a rather simple service: just send an email to [phonenumber]@teleflip.com and the service will send a text message (via email) to the appropriate address based on carrier. Works really well; it adds a small "www.teleflip.com" tagline to your message, but other than that is identical to sending directly to the carrier.
